Facility managers live inside a contradiction: staff and visitors expect hotel-grade amenities, budgets expect zero new line items. Workplace coffee is one of the few amenities where the contradiction actually has a clean exit — because the machine can take payment.

The vending-enabled model

A vending-capable bean-to-cup machine — in our lineup, the 550 Touch — accepts card, coin and token payments at the machine. That single feature unlocks three funding structures:

  • Full cost recovery: everyone pays a modest per-cup price (still far below café prices). The amenity nets to zero; the employer provides the space and looks generous anyway.
  • Split funding: staff drink free or subsidized via configured pricing; visitors and contractors pay. Common in dealership lounges, co-working spaces and clinics with public traffic.
  • Revenue mode: in high-traffic facilities — manufacturing floors with contractors, golf clubs, event venues — the machine simply sells coffee, and margin accumulates.

The math on a real floor

Take a 60-person facility averaging 1.5 cups per person daily — about 90 cups a day. At even a modest self-serve price above per-cup cost, the machine covers its own consumables and service. The employer's total amenity spend: zero, after the trial week. Compare that to a "free" pod machine quietly costing five figures a year, and the vending option stops looking like nickel-and-diming and starts looking like adult budgeting.

What token mode is for

Tokens solve the "we want to give coffee away, but selectively" problem: hand them to visitors, interview candidates, or as spot recognition. The machine meters everything either way, so finance gets a clean usage report instead of a shrug.

Getting the configuration right

Pricing per drink, free-for-staff windows, payment types — all of it is configurable and changeable after install. Start with one structure, watch a month of usage data, adjust. It's your machine's policy, not a contract term; with no contracts at all, nothing is locked. Trial the 550 Touch free and test the model with real traffic before committing to any structure.
